What Is PQQ And Why Is It Important?

Pyrroloquinoline quinone (PQQ is a redux cofactor found throughout the galaxy (in space dust/interstellar particles) and throughout the Earth's crust.  It is also available in trace amount in foods such as kiwi, bell peppers and tofu. 

PQQ plays an essential role in the growth of new mitochondria.  Studies show that an increased amount of functioning mitochondria is correlated to overall good health and longevity. PQQ also has an antioxidant effect.  Free radicals (oxidants) can cause damage to cells, leading to a number of chronic diseases.   Research is indicates that PQQ is more efficient than other antioxidants  found in fruits and vegetables: even vitamin C.  Studies show that it is many times more effective than vitamin c with some considering it thousands of times better with respect to behaving as an antioxidant.

 PQQ has recently been shown in studies to help reverse cognitive impairment from oxidative stress and enhance performance in memory tests of animals.  Conclusive evidence of this would be a major step in the world of anti-aging.  It also has been shown to protect nerve cells from the damaging effects of the Alzheimers-linked protein, beta-amyloid.  When paired with CoQ10 in double blind studies they have been shown to improve mental function.  There is a lot of research currently pairing the two compounds together to show its effectiveness in boosting brain power.   

 As we age, we tend to forget things.  Some are not important, but some are very important.  We cannot stop the effects of time but perhaps we can slow them down.  PQQ is believed to have a positive effect on memory function in humans.  Again, these effects were enhanced more when PQQ and CoQ-10 were combined.  

These are both what this website considers possible key anti-aging supplements.  PQQ is key because it helps create mitochondria in older people who are suffering from decreased levels.  There are two forms of CoQ10- Ubiquinol and Ubiquinol.  As the human body ages it becomes more reliant on the ubiquinol form which is the type that is still functional in people past the age of 35-40 (as opposed to ubiquinon that is more useful to younger people).  Ubiquinon is much less useful in consumption and supplementation by people over 40.  Furthermore, the vast majority of CoQ10 sold in the supplement world is ubiquinon.
