Looking at the ingredient list above can really make a person wonder how most of these compounds are allowed to be put in a topical product. This is a photo of the back of Dunkin Donuts' pumpkin spice lip balm. It actually contains titanium along with many strangely named synthetic chemicals including Red 6, Red 7 and Red 27. The thought of applying this to the skin seems absurd but most people making impulse counter purchases do not take time to read the back of the item.
Our original/unscented Catskills Gold Lip Balm contains only 3 ingredients; Beeswax from local area bee keepers, Organic Shea Butter sourced from African shea nuts, and vitamin e. These ingredients can not be compromised as they create total lip support (moisturize, replenish, lock in/protect nutrients). Leading brands use ingredients with many damaging chemicals in an attempt to recreate natural flavors at a lower price. Their main motivation is the ultimate price mark up.
As we expand our product line we are combining this core recipe with actual distilled oils from the flavoring organisms themselves. For example our Pumpkin Spice Lip Balm contains only six ingredients; Catskills Beeswax, Organic Shea Butter, Vitamin E, as well as distilled organic oils from Cinnamon, Nutmeg and Allspice. Our new Real Peppermint flavor contains the original three ingredients mixed with Organic Peppermint Oil.
We believe that a lot of modern day health issues stem from toxins in food and water but also from topical products containing dangerous chemicals that are eventually absorbed into the body via the skin. The vast majority of our lip balms are composed of Local Catskills Beeswax, filtered by regional beekeepers, and Organic Shea Butter harvested in Africa. Cleopatra used shea butter as a moisturizer thousands of years ago while bees have been making their wax as a protective compound for millions of years. I periodically open lip balm tubes from initial batches that are over a year old and see zero degradation of the product in any way; even in tubes that were never shrink wrapped and therefore exposed to constant oxygen.
